On June 3, 2024, Steven Rosen was announced as the next head coach at Manhattan College, becoming the youngest active D1 head coach in the country at 29 years old. Rosen has the interim tag on his name after replacing Dave Miller.
Former Manhattan baseball coach Dave Miller announced Rosen as his first hire after taking over the program in September of 2023, bringing in Rosen from the University of Alabama to serve as the team’s pitching coach and recruiting coordinator — a promotion from his previous assistant gig with the Crimson Tide. Steven Rosen spent two seasons leading the Jaspers pitching staff while doubling up by helping lead the recruiting efforts. His high-level performance in these roles, as well as his seven years of prior D1 coaching experience, put Rosen in position to succeed Miller. Rosen’s roots are in New Jersey, where he attended the College of New Jersey, earned a bachelor's degree in English, and lettered as a catcher for the Lions.
In his first year at Manhattan, the Jaspers assembled the 56th-ranked recruiting class in the country for 2023, according to Perfect Game USA. The Jaspers’ group of talented incoming players ranked first among all Division I Northeast programs and consisted of players from across 14 different states. Manhattan was the only MAAC school to have a nationally-ranked recruiting class.
On the mound, Jaspers pitchers benefitted from Rosen’s coaching. In MAAC play, the Manhattan pitching staff ranked third in ERA (5.36), second in opponent avg. against (.266), third in strikeouts (196), and second in home runs allowed (20).
The Jaspers bullpen also earned eight saves in conference play, which ranked third in the MAAC. Freshmen Oliver Pudvar (3-1, 42 IP, 43K, 3.37 ERA) and Garrett Garbinski (24 IP, 24K, and 6 Saves) were named MAAC All-Rookie Selections.
Manhattan pitchers collectively struck out 416 hitters, the second most ever in program history. Senior Will Hesslink finished his campaign with 94 strikeouts, the fourth most in program history for a single season.
Rosen came to Manhattan by way of the University of Alabama Crimson Tide. While on the Crimson Tide coaching staff, Rosen was the Director of Player Development, with day-to-day responsibilities that included assisting pitching coach Jason Jackson. Rosen oversaw the team's implementation of Trumedia and Trackman while working daily to assist Jackson in the development of the pitching staff. Rosen, who had prior recruiting experience, also assisted in the Tide’s recruiting efforts.
In June of 2022, Rosen was named pitching coach for the Harwich Mariners of the prestigious Cape Cod Summer League. While with the Mariners, Rosen coached MLB draft picks: Sean Sullivan (2nd Round, Colorado Rockies), Carlson Reed (4th round, Pittsburgh Pirates), Noah Dean (5th round, Boston Red Sox), Jaden Woods (7th Round, Pittsburgh Pirates), Teddy Sharkey (7th Round, Baltimore Orioles), Drew Conover (11th Round, Oakland Athletics), Liam Sullivan (13th Round, Washington Nationals), and Billy Seidl (15th round, Chicago White Sox).
Prior to joining Alabama and Harwich, Rosen was a coach in the Minnesota Twins organization. Rosen spent a year and half in Fort Myers, Fla. and the Dominican Republic, where he was tasked with implementing development plans for over 35 players in the Twins organization.
Before his stint in professional baseball, Rosen spent over a year on the coaching staff at the University of Notre Dame, serving as the program’s director of baseball operations. For the Fighting Irish, Rosen worked under both current Richmond head coach Mik Aoki, and Link Jarrett, current head coach at Florida State. While with the Fighting Irish, Rosen oversaw the day-to-day operations of the entire baseball program and had a hand in recruiting.
In 2016, Rosen was named an assistant coach at Georgia State University of the Sun Belt Conference. From 2016 to 2018 Rosen led the team's catching group, assisting with pitching and hitting development. Rosen played a large role in the development of catcher Nick Gatewood, an 11th round draft selection by the San Diego Padres in 2018. Rosen also had a hand in the recruiting efforts for the Panthers.
